Thurston County CLE - Attachment Disorder

Thurston County Family & Juvenile Court and the Thurston County Bar Association present free training for legal, mental health, education and social services professionals working with court-involved children and families.

This workshop will focus on nontraditional approaches to working with children who have been identified as having attachment challenges.
The workshop will briefly review the definitions of attachment and attachment disorder. A major emphasis of the training will address strategies that parents, foster parents, relative caregivers, therapists and agency staff can utilize to help children and youth form more secure attachment that can support successes in all domains of their lives
including:
* Understanding and passing the *test* children and youth have for the adults in their lives
* The core competencies of proactive caregivers to enhance attachment
* Promoting self-regulation in children and adolescents
* Understanding and utilizing the nontraditional parenting skills that can enhance attachment
* Managing power struggle behavior that is common with youth who have attachment challenges

* Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit is free. This program has been approved for 1 CLE Credit. No pre-registration is required.

Second Saturday workshop: What Women Need to Know About Divorce The March workshop is on March 10, 2012. 8:00 am - 8:30 am registration, 8:30 am program begins, 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm program will finish.

The workshop is co-presented by a lawyer, financial planner, mediator and counselor. Its purpose is to educate women in transition so they can make informed decisions about how they want to proceed.

Participants will get general information about processes, legal requirements and how to interact effectively with professionals. All of our presenters are volunteers.

Location: Heart Connections, 305 West 16th Street, Vancouver, WA 98660.

Contact person to RSVP: Lynne Smith (360) 213-1801. Cost: $45.

Scholarships are available for low-income participants - they pay a reduced fee or no fee at all.

February FLS Meeting

CCBA FLS – Wednesday, February 8, 2012 MEETING

Meredith McKell Graff will be speaking on insurance issues relating to family law. Believe it or not, but Meredith has considerable insurance sector experience from her time prior to being an attorney. This will include life insurance for child support obligations and health insurance issues for soon to be “ex-spouses”.

FLS January 2012 Meeting

CCBA FLS – January 11, 2012 MEETING

Our first meeting of 2012 will be next Wednesday. Dru Horenstein will be discussing “Why a QDRO is More Than a Retirement Asset”. She will show how a QDRO can be used to collect back child support, maintenance and related attorney’s fees. Dru will also discuss how a QDRO can be used to secure maintenance and child support in final orders and the possibility of using a QDRO to collect on a hold harmless provision.
