FLS JANUARY MEETING
Mark your calendars! The next FLS meeting is January 14, 2010.
Judge Rulli and Scott Horenstein will explain the Supreme Court case, Estate of Borghi. A decision was made last month that gives new direction to the courts regarding characterization of real property that was owned prior to the marriage; but subsequently was placed in joint title.

Second Saturday
Let your client's know about....
"Second Saturday: What Women Need to Know About Divorce."
The class is held at Heart Connections on 305 W 16th Street, Vancouver, WA on Saturday, December 12th with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. and class from 8:30 a.m. to about noon. The class will address the legal, financial, emotional, and social aspects of divorce.
Attorneys who would like to monitor the class are welcome to do so in preparation for teaching or recommending it to clients. RSVP is optional but appreciated at 360.448.8833 or email dana.greyson@gmail.com.

Don't forget our next meeting! It's everybody's favorite annual holiday meeting taking place on December 10, 2009 at Tommy O's.
Santa and his elf will present “awards” to the cast of characters known as the Family Law Section. Our former Santa, Judge Nichols, retired from his position as Santa so we will unveil our new Family Law Section Santa.
Please remember to RSVP so I can provide the list of attendees to Santa in advance. Be warned that RSVP’ing is submitting your name to be “honored” by Santa!

Offer for Family Law Section
Scott Horenstein has a friend who has a condo in Lake Tahoe, right at the base of Heavenly Valley Ski Area. The condo has two bedrooms each with king beds, a kitchen, etc. He is renting it out for the week of December 26 to January 2.
It typically rents for $2,800.00 but he is offering it for $1,200.00 and donating the money to charity.

This Saturday, November 14th, is the monthly "Second Saturday Workshop" with the topic "What Women Need to Know About Divorce."

CCBA FLS NOVEMBER MEETING
Our next meeting is Thursday, November 12, 2009 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Tommy O’s, 801 Washington Street, Vancouver, WA.
Business valuators Blake Runckel and Carey Caruthers from Columbia Financial Advisors and Greg Mettler will present to the group. Each of the appraisers will describe the nature of their practice, years of experience, and practice focus, if any. Then we will open up to questions from the group.
The cost to attend the lunch meeting is $12.00 for non-attorneys and attorneys who do not wish to receive the CLE credit. Attorneys who want lunch and CLE credit are $17.00. Attorney’s who want lunch and CLE credit but are not a member of the CCBA FLS pay $27.00. Members who do not RSVP will be charged $25.00 at the door. Nonmembers will be charged $35.00 at the door. Judges, Commissioners, and speakers are always free of charge.

CCBA Family Law CLE, October 12 & 13
On October 12 and 13th the CCBA is hosting a Family Law CLE. This is a 2 day event for 12 credits and will be held at the Red Lion at the Quay.
You can submit registration with check to the CCBA or call them with credit card information at 360- 695-5975.
The cost is $299.00 for members and $350.00 for nonmembers.

New Child Support Schedule and Worksheet Now Available
The newly revised Washington Child Support Schedule and Worksheets is now available on the Washington Courts website:

Of particular note is the new median net monthly income table, which has changed substantially.

The poverty guidelines are updated annually, usually around February 1. For 2009, 125% of the federal poverty guideline is $1,128 per month.
Washington's minimum wage will not change next year (nor will Oregon's); so it will remain $8.55/hr. ($8.40 for Oregon).

New Child Support Guidelines - Not a Basis for a Modification
The Judges have issued a statement indicating that they have unanimously agreed that the change in the child support guidelines was not the type of substantial change of circumstances contemplated by the statute and by itself would not be a basis for a modification.

OCTOBER 2009 MEETING - DRUG TESTING!
If you want to know the latest in drug testing technology, how to get the most effective results, and why to use certain tests over others, you need to attend the next Family Law Section meeting!
The next meeting will be Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Tommy O's.
Presenting to the group will be Laramie Roberts from Advanced Diagnostics. Ms. Roberts was a social services manager in Las Vegas for 8 years and has been drug testing for 21 years. She certifies officers who do audits for the Department of Transportation (DOT) and instructs drug and alcohol awareness classes for the DOT. Advanced Diagnostics conducts urinalysis tests, hair follicle tests, breath alcohol tests, and hair tests for children to determine whether the child has been in an environment with airborne drugs such as methamphetamines.

The Family Law Section's first meeting of the season will be from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10 at Tommy O's.
Dayann Liebman and Jolene Sell have agreed to present to the group regarding the new child support guidelines that will be implemented this October.
Remember to RSVP for meetings by submitting your payment by the Monday prior to the meeting to the Treasurer, Kristen Parcher, at 1305 Main Street.
