For Practicing Lawyers: The ADR Advocacy Track

Of particular interest to attorneys is the ADR Advocacy Track. It's a complete program of workshops designed with the practicing lawyer in mind. There are five sessions for lawyers representing clients in ADR processes, focusing on different aspects of advocacy:
• Moving beyond positional bargaining
• Choosing a mediator with academician, researcher, and mediator Stephen Goldberg
• Professor John Lande presenting from his book, Planned Early Negotiation
• Navigating challenging personalities and emotions in mediation
• Closing the deal and drafting agreements
The ADR Advocacy Track features headliners for the conference from around the country as well as presenters from our area with national reputations. Each session is moderated by Lee Jay Berman, mediator and trainer, appearing courtesy of the American Institute of Mediation. It is the full-service CLE program this year for those newer to mediation as well as seasoned professionals.

Other Conference Highlights

The conference is again bringing together the best and brightest ADR practitioners and presenters from Canada, England, and all across the United States for another outstanding program for all ADR practitioners.
• Opening plenary presentation by Nina Meierding on The Psychological Bias Against Creativity
• Online Dispute Resolution with Colin Rule, architect of the eBay and PayPal ODR systems
• Doug Noll, California Lawyer's 2012 Pro Bono Award winner, on Becoming a Peacemaker
• Three sessions on foreclosure mediation and updates on the Foreclosure Fairness Act
• Mediation of land use disputes
• Resolving Complex Water and Flooding Issues in Multi-Party Disputes
• On addressing our clients' grudges — Grudgeology, with Neil Denny, English collaborative family lawyer and author

Registration and Rates

Groups of five or more can register together and save significantly with group rates: just $204 for both days of the conference per person (register by April 20). Even at individual rates, the conference is still one of the most cost-effective ways to get CLE credit. The conference is approved for 9 Washington CLE credits for only $255 for both days ($300 after April 20). With the Scholarship Program sponsored by conference supporters and the WSBA ADR Section, 10 full-ride scholarships will be awarded. Individuals can register online or by mail.
